The title ‘Number 1’ is not a boast – it’s a fact. Because the building is literally the first as you enter the village along the path from the south, it carries a ‘1’ plaque on the front wall, registering its postal address.
Entered under an ancient stone archway, the main house comprises a two-storey old stone building of about 120 sq.m., renovated externally but in need of some cosmetic upgrading and internal modernisation. The lower floor was occupied until recently and could be lived in whilst works are taking place. Water and electricity are connected and functioning, and central heating is installed on the lower floor.

The stone-built barn and storeroom need full reconstruction, for development possibly into a very large family space or into more accommodation (shared space for a walking group?). The property is a bit of a blank canvas of redesign possibilities, but as the yard opens from the Corfu Trail, one of them is as a small guesthouse with owner accommodation.
The yard is of a very comfortable size, and the view from the balcony, and from a roof terrace over one part of the property, is absolutely stunning, with the whole Messongi Valley spread out below, the village-dotted mountains beyond, Lake Korission and the sea in the distance, and even Corfu Town in view from the other aspect.
Komianata is part of the Community of Stavros, a string of mountain villages that, due to the passage of the Corfu Trail and to the efforts of locals to develop other walking trails in the area, has made it a centre for hikers. At the other end of the village, a taverna offers rooms to let, and the enterprise is very popular with Trail overnighters, as well as with individuals and groups who wish to explore the area in more depth.
